Dog Drooling Excessively Or Panting Heavily? What Could Be Wrong

Blog

If your dog is panting or drooling excessively, it could be a sign of distress, and you need to get your dog some help in order to get your dog diagnosed properly and treated as needed. If your dog is having these and/or other issues, you should take your dog to a pet hospital right away to get the help they need to feel better. Read on for a few reasons why your dog may not be feeling well and what you can do to help them.

What May Be Wrong

If your dog is not feeling well and is drooling or panting excessively, there could have a number of things wrong with them. They could have eaten something that they shouldn't have only to find that it was toxic for them or they are allergic to it. If your dog has eaten anything they shouldn't have, you need to take a look around to see what they may have gotten into. They could also have a fever and be feeling ill and are panting or drooling in order to keep cool. Check your dog for a fever by feeling behind their front legs and in their ears to see if they feel really warm. Your dog may also be hypothermic or dehydrated. If your dog has been out in the cold, they could have hypothermia. You need to keep your dog in on cold days and give them shelter to keep warm. If your dog is dehydrated, it could have been because they haven't had water. Your dog should be drinking enough water every day to prevent dehydration.

What You Can Do

You should take your dog to the veterinarian or to the pet hospital in order to be treated for these issues. You can also help your dog by giving them small increments of water to help them flush anything toxic they ingested and to help with dehydration. Make sure you let them outside as needed if they are vomiting or if they have diarrhea. They may want to eat grass to help settle their stomach. You should also allow your dog any rest they need if they are lethargic from hypothermia. Cover them with a blanket to get their body temperature up. If they are dehydrated, allow them to lay on a cool floor to stay cool. First and foremost, you need to get your dog to the animal hospital to be treated though.

If your dog is having issues such as drooling or panting heavily, keep an eye on your dog and get them the help they needs.

Trap-Alter-Release: Program Launch Fundamentals

When I moved into the town I'm living in now, there was a large population of stray cats. Unfortunately, that population kept growing in rapid numbers because none of the cats had been fixed. I knew that wasn't a healthy situation, so I reached out to a local shelter and a veterinarian to launch a trap-alter-release program. Within about a year, we had the entire population altered and released back to their environments. The logistics were significant, but not overwhelming. That's why I built this site. My goal is to teach others how to launch a similar program in their own neighborhood to help keep the stray cats healthier and safer.
